CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEDSALUS PRODUCTS
This is how your sheep wool products stay hygienically fresh – completely without washing.
In production, neither chemicals nor heat are used. There is a good reason for this. The natural protection of sheep wool – lanolin – has antibacterial, cleansing, moisture-regulating, and odor-neutralizing properties. Our sheep wool blankets must not be washed: If a MedSalus sheep wool blanket is cleaned with hot water and conventional detergent, the lanolin is destroyed. As a result, our blankets and pillows would lose their natural properties.
A daily shaking and good airing in the shade is enough to keep your duvet or pillow clean and fresh. It is important that there is sufficient air circulation – for apartments without a balcony, a spot in front of an open window is recommended.
Tip: Ventilation works even better with humid air, for example after a rain shower or in fog – please without cover.
Our products also have a natural lifespan. After about 7–8 years, they lose their best properties. A simple test: If the duvet is placed in the sun, the lanolin warms up and emits a characteristic, natural wool smell. If this is no longer present, the lanolin is missing – the self-cleaning no longer works completely.
Even directly after delivery, a natural odor of the wool may be noticeable – simply air it out in a shady place for a few hours.
If it is ever necessary: Do not use a water-saving program to ensure there is enough wash and rinse water. Dry the ceiling horizontally (e.g., lay it over several lines) and never expose it to the sun or the dryer.
Alternatively, the cleaning can be done through a specialized cleaning service – please inquire beforehand whether they work with sheep wool products.
The cover is made of untreated cotton and is OEKO-Tex certified. Small stains can be ideally removed with an organic stain remover.
Please remember: Only the bed linen will be changed, not the blanket itself. Experts recommend changing the bed linen once or twice a month.
